Dave Adamson: When Your Faith Is Shaken

Need some encouragement today?

There’s a story in the Bible in which God tells Job—a man whose life has fallen apart—that he has a storehouse where he keeps all the snow. Now, to any normal person, this verse seems like just poetic imagery, but if you read these posts every day, you’re no longer normal—sorry!

You already know this verse holds something much deeper.

See, this verse happens when Job’s faith has been shaken, and he is at the weakest, most frail point in his life.

That's when God comes along to remind Job that he cares so much for all of his creation, that he even keeps snowflakes safe inside their own storehouse! Seriously!

The Hebrew word we translate as "storehouse" in this verse is "otsar" (אוצר, pronounced "oh-tsaw"), which means treasury, the place for storing things of great value. God is reminding Job that if he values a snowflake so much that he keeps it safely in a storehouse … then surely he cares for Job too.

But wait, there’s more!

Have you ever considered that while one single snowflake may be frail and weak, when enough snowflakes come together and support each other, they can cause an avalanche that will literally move a mountain! In the apparent weakness of a snowflake can be found great strength!

CS Lewis wrote; “Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny” … and that destiny is most often found in community—with God and with others.

If your faith has been shaken this year, and left you feeling weak, I believe God wants to remind you today that when you trust in him, and find support in this community, he will turn your weakness into a strength that will move mountains.

"Have you entered the storehouses of the snow" — Job 38:22
